Many of you were by my side during the years that my remarkable mother, Mollie, succumbed to this dreaded disease. Fortunately for us, long after our beloved Dublin Diva failed to recognize her loved ones, her incredible singing talents lasted to the bitter end, so we could still enjoy the essence of Mollie's being - that wonderful ability to make others feel welcome and special. Mom's final days were spent singing songs from her childhood and her homeland, Ireland, and, when she could no longer sing, smiling as we played and sang them for her.
I'm now walking to help reclaim the future for the millions of other Alzheimer's victims - the other Mollies out there who are equally remarkable and loved. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
But I need your support to do my part. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you.
On behalf of Mollie and my family, I thank you for your love and support. Go raibh maith agat.
