(September 1, 1940 - August 6, 2019)
Four years ago (2015) Mom received her diagnosis of Alzheimers. Our family fought along side and with Mom against this deadly horrific disease.
We had hopes of beating it, if only by keeping Mom's functioning level up so she could enjoy life for a long time. The disease progresses pretty much the same for everyone but the time frame varies. Our time was short - four years after diagnosis was not what we expected but is is what we were given.
The disease progressed to a point where the fight changed to all Mom had left was her inner strength and innate will to live. But eventually, ALZHEIMERS took that from her - the brain turns everything off. Mom passed on August 6, 2019. And she gave it her ALL!
When someone learns what my family and I have been battling through with Mom over the past years, their response is almost always with a story of someone close that suffered the same disease, same story. This is amazing to me - how can so many people suffer through a life ending disease and there is NO CURE!
Unfortunately our story will be repeated over and over - until a CURE is found.
AWARENESS AND EDUCATION - are the best weapons for keeping the progressive research and fight for funding!
On October 19th - I will be walking with anyone that would like to join me - or you can walk in your own city/town. Our walk will be in honor of the beautiful Mother and the fight she gave and for all of the friends and families that are battling this horrific disease! S.Garley
