Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the US with no cure! Caregivers are in desperate need of more resources and financial support. I'm joining the Walk to End Alzheimer's in honor of my mother Sue who passed away in December 2018 from Alzheimer's. My paternal grandmother, Hazel Ritchie, died from the disease and I also walk in her memory.
During mom's late stage with Alzheimer's, I changed my work schedule from full-time to part-time to help my dad. My brother and sister-in-law also helped on weekends and later our dad hired caregivers through an agency for additional help. Private care and specialized care through agencies is not covered by Medicare. Memory Care and Skilled Nursing Facilities are not covered by insurance and families are faced with impossible out-of-pocket costs for these private pay facilities - averaging at least $4,000.00 a month!
Caregivers need support more than ever! Join me in the fight!
