I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My mother, Crystal, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in her early 60's. The disease slowly took everything from my mother. From a master gardener to not even wanting to plant in the spring. It was hard watching all of her passions disappear. In her late 70's, the disease stole everything from Mom. Those were the hardest days when she no longer knew her family. We lost her the day before Valentine's Day in 2018. We are lucky that her grandchildren got to see her before the disease took it all. We all have good memories of my mother and her contagious laughter.
