While I am a neuroscientist and have helped build a formidable and amazing team of Alzheimer's disease researchers at Michigan State University that does not mean I am untouched by the disease's devastation. My father passed away as a result of complications from Alzheimer's disease. This year I walk for my colleagues who tirelessly work toward answers about the origins of the disease and potential therapies. This year I also walk for my siblings who gave so much of their own time for the care of my father during his more than decade long battle with the disease. The Alzheimer's Association supports the research of my colleagues at MSU and provides resources and support caregivers and those suffering from the disease. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
