David and I are so very grateful for the outpouring of support we received for our 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer's. This year we are hoping to raise at least $1500 as a result of our walk around the Bowdoin College campus on October 19. It's especially gratifying to know that the Jackson Laboratory Alzheimer's Disease Center in Bar Harbor is at the forefront in making significant strides in decoding this tragic disease. Please know that even the most modest donation is a huge help - many hands make light work.
In 2014, David was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimer's after an extensive career with L. L. Bean. Last November, David began having delusions that created much frustration and anger that necessitated adding a fourth prescription to his daily medications. Since then he has experienced a steady decline in very basic abilities. It's clear that he is beginning to leave us yet he remains the gentle, thoughtful person he has always been. When we got him ready for bed and tucked in him recently, he thanked me for my "hospitality."
This year's photo was taken Friday, September 6 on board the Grand Manan V. We were headed back to Durham after a wonderful six days on White Head Island in the Bay of Fundy. David and I have been vacationing on White Head and Grand Manan islands for the past 15+ years. We were glad to have our dear mutual friend Ginny Tudor from Boston with us, while Chelsea, along with two year old Eloise, tended the chickens and pets on the home front so we could get-away.
Thank you all again for your support. Gratefully ~ Belinda
