I lost my warm and loving Dad, Ray, on February 11, 2016. We had lost him long before that though, as Alzheimer's took him from us, little by little, over the course of at least eight years. At first, my intelligent, witty Dad lost the sharpness of his mind. Then, he lost his freedom and his shared home with his wife, the love of his life. When my strong, athletic Dad could no longer walk, it hit me very hard, and when he could no longer converse, it hit me even harder. Alzheimer's left him a shell of who he used to be. I could only hold his hand and remember for him. I thank God he no longer has Alzheimer's. I believe he is whole now and in heaven.
