I sometimes wonder how a single word could ever be haunting. Alzheimers. I remember the first time I heard it. I had just got home from a vacation in Maine with my closest friends, feeling care free and happy. I walked through the front door, my Mom was crying on the other side of the kitchen counter, my older sister standing in the kitchen with her. She looked at me and said, Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers. She immediately hugged me. I remember ever so clearly just standing there wondering why she was hugging me and thinking to myself what is Alzheimers? Little did I know that one word would haunt me from that day on. Day by day, week by week, I've watched my beloved Dad lose more and more of himself.
Please join me in my fight to end Alzheimer’s disease so people can truly understand what Alzheimers is and how it affects millions of families. I am walking on behalf of my Dad and all the other amazing Fathers out there going through this devastating disease in hope of a cure.
