Over the past 12 years, I've learned:
• There is almost no one that has never been touched by this disease.
• Alzheimer’s patients thrive on being with others.
• Alzheimer’s doesn’t necessarily tear apart the victim . . . We really don’t know what kinds of pains or joys they experience. . . I just remember a social worker coming into the community room at the nursing home . . . and my mom, who had no idea who I was or why I was visiting her, belted out hymns like she had no memory loss whatsoever! But then went on in her disoriented fashion.
• Baby Boomers are now entering retirement. . . The facilities and funding and long term care plans needed are NOT in place for the number coming up that are at risk. LET’S FIND A CURE INSTEAD!!!
Currently, 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, a number projected to rise to nearly 14 million by 2050. Every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's disease and it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Please help me make a difference by making a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Together, we can make Alzheimer's disease a memory!
