This year, I'm participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® for the first time. My inspiration for joining this fight is my grandfather. As a child, he used to sit and tell me stories about his time in Germany, teach me about cars, and so much more. Today, he no longer knows who I am, and his words are few and far between. I visit him with my children even though he no longer knows us. It hurts, but at the same time I enjoy this time I have with him even if he won't remember it. There is nothing more painful than watching someone you love forget that they love you back. I'm joining this fight in hopes that less families will have to endure the heartache that is Alzheimer's.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
