Welcome to Steve Porter’s page, or as some call him “Saint Steve”. As most of you already know, Steve is my uncle and is currently battling this horrible disease. This page and walk is to support him, his beautiful kids Stephen and Brooke and his entire family. I recently made the trip to Long Island where he is living to see him for the first time after he was diagnosed and as a lot of you may have experienced, I left feeling completely helpless. While I was in Portsmouth I found this brochure and I realized by donating to find a cure we are helping him and anyone suffering from the disease.
Steve is now 60 years old and doesn’t recognize any of his family. He has lost the ability to do every day tasks that you and I may take for granted simply because he doesn’t remember. The one thing He does seem to recognize is music, while there we played some of his favorites and he tapped his foot to them just like he always would. He is truly one of the nicest people, his infectious laugh and smile are just two of the things I love most about about him.
The walk is also in honor of our grandfather Harry Turton, aka “Opah” who suffered from dementia. Although his was much later in life I remember how frustrating it was for him and how difficult it was for our family to watch him go through it.
Please consider joining us for the walk to support Steve, his family and Opah (or anyone else you may want to walk for), or making a donation in their honor.
