I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. My name is Rochele Bradley-Moore. I am an employee within the HR Shared Services Division. My story begins with my mother, Mary Ruth Bradley who was diagnosed in 2002 with Alzheimer's disease. For over 30 years she had worked as the bookkeeper for Simmons Bible College here in Louisville, KY. My mother always kept immaculate and very accurate records. However, one day there was something different about her. She would stare for hours without speaking and began to hallucinate. She was diagnosed in 2003 with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. As an only child I was solely responsible for my mother's care. The roles were reversed and I was parenting my mom. I tired to do this on my own for over a year. My mom's older sister also tried to care for her within her own home. One day my mom decided she wasn't going to walk anymore. So, my search for a nursing home began. Call it luck or maybe destiny, my mother began her stay as a resident at the former Kindred Facility - Bashford East. Ironically my brother-in-law was the executive director at this location and I was working in Human Resources for a home health company. My mother's illness fueled my passion for caregiving and advocacy for this dreaded disease. My mom passed on 12.02.2006, one day after her 78th birthday. I am truly thankful for my village and my Kindred Village. Please help us to make a change and join the Kindred Family in walking in the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer's.
