Late last year, I was so fortunate to find a new career opportunity working with the Alzheimer's Association. As the staff partner for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Terre Haute, Heartland (Anderson/Muncie) and Kokomo, I am motivated to move the mission of the Alzheimer's Association forward. However, my connection goes much deeper. You see, prior to taking this position, I learned that my dear friend, Daren Bergeron, had been diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s at the age of 48. His wife, Erin, and I have been close friends since meeting in college years ago. We have been though all of life’sups and downs together…college fun, weddings, kids, careers, vacations and everything in between. Our times together have been, and remain, priceless. I can’t help but feel that my position at the Alzheimer’s Association was not happenstance. I have been given an opportunity to help my friend navigate this horrific disease, as well as bring awareness and understanding that the Alzheimer’s Association is here to help families, caregivers and all involved. We are on our way to one day live in world without Alzheimer’s, but we need to raise the funds to do the research and FIND A CURE!
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
