Unfortunately, my family is very familiar with the devastation of an Alzheimer's diagnosis. We lost my great uncle George, my great aunt Marj, and most recently my grammie to this horrible disease. My grandpa is fighting Alzheimer's as I type these words. The effects of Alzheimer's ripple through the entire family. I am so worried that other members of my family will have to fight Alzheimer's. I fear that my children will lose their own grandparents, or me or my husband (or both of us) to this fight. I am heartbroken by the thought that my kids may one day have to endure an Alzheimer's diagnosis of their own.
Obviously, this is not just about my family. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
