I will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's to honor my dad, all the people living with dementia, and all the people enduring the daily struggles of caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another dementia. It's been 9 years since my dad was diagnosed and not a day goes by that I don't think about, and experience, the struggle and heartache surrounding this disease. Alzheimer's and other dementias strip the individual of their identity, take an extreme financial toll on families, and cause many health problems for caregivers consumed by the 24/7 care that is eventually required as the disease progresses.
My dad is one person, but there are currently more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's. I can not hope that my dad will ever get better, because there is no way to reverse this disease at this point. But, I can walk to raise awareness, fund research, and fund programs to support caregivers and people currently living with dementia. And I will not stop.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
