Nancy's AlzStarz are participating in the walk in honor of our Mom/Nana, Nancy Whitehead. Our team of walkers will be even larger this year since Nancy's children, grandchildren, and even a great grandchild will be coming to St. Simons to be a part of her team. We are looking forward to members of our church family and friends joining us as we walk to bring attention to this horrible disease which effects so many more people each year.
Since the last walk our Mom has enjoyed visits from all of her grandchildren and their spouses, her great grandchildren, and held her first great grand-daughter. In this past year Mom's Alzheimer's has advanced to the last stages. We have watched this wonderful woman gradually lose her memories of her life, her family, and her friends. Nancy loved to have conversations with people and now she has difficulty with mere sentences. She still retains her sweet spirit, her smile, and her caring personality. She may struggle with who someone is, but she wants to know if they have had a good day and loves to hear their stories. We still have moments of joy, especially when she holds your hand and looks at you with that familiar twinkle in her eyes. Then you know she feels your love. Although our hearts ache as we watch this painful progression, we still have happy moments with her and we continue to pray for more of those moments.
Last year we surpassed our expectations, so we have set a goal of $10,000 this year! That is a BIG goal. No goal is too high in the search for a cure. Many of you reading this donated last year and we so appreciated your willingness to be a part of Nancy's team. Once again we are asking for support of Nancy's team by your donations and we would love for you to join us on walk day. We can't stop giving to this cause since Alzheimer's still takes so many people each year. We cannot stop until there is a cure. This terrible disease is robbing so many people of their memories daily, so our actions are needed now!
Please consider this...what would you give to make sure you were able to retain all your memories. How about a dollar a memory? Of course that seems ridiculous because our memories are precious and priceless. No amount is enough, so this fight is real. Please join us as we work to keep more memories alive.
We are thankful for your support of our team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
