Well, mom's getting ready for another birthday! Who would have thought when she was diagnosed with vascular dementia five years ago, then fell and broke her hip and femur, that she'd be getting ready for another birthday?
Mom's still has daily challenges, and a few health issues; last year she had a bout with pneumonia and we didn't think she'd make it, but "Wonder Woman" pulled through.
Last year, her birthday was a fantastic Tap Dance Party made possible by Wish Of A Lifetime. What a Day!!
This year, I once again am going all out in my volunteer role with the Broward Walk To End Alzheimer's. I am the Mission Chair. It's perfect for me because I want to bring awareness to this disease. I want to help #endalz so that families and their loved ones do not ever have to endure Alzheimer's or Dementia, of which today there is no cure.
I didn't choose this, and neither did Mom. But, I've accepted it and I am committed to being #momswarrior.
Won't you be one of #momswarriors?
Right now, there are no medications to help my mom with this progressive disease.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining the movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you
