I am walking to end Alzheimer’s in honor of my Dad, Tick Pendley. Alzheimer's took our Dad from a man of great pride and dignity to a man of little to no awareness to his body or living environment. Our Dad became a "Silver Alert" October 28, 2008; he wondered about four miles into the woods around his home. Dad was found October 30, 2008 and taken to the Hospital for evaluation. The Doctors told us "the stress from Dad's recent flight ("Silver Alert") had worsened his condition." As my sister said, "Dad's is no longer the man he was... he's not mentally with us anymore." Dad no longer knew the children.
This is why my brother, sister and I prefer to remember our Dad prior to Alzheimer’s and would like to share how we feel about our Dad. As my brother wrote so well; “As we go thru life each day, we have few opportunities to meet a person that is larger than life. A man who enjoyed life each day to the fullest. A man who followed his dreams and made it a reality. A man who started out poor but ended with a wealth beyond material objects. He followed his dreams and showed others life is a fun experience and even during tough times you find your way thru, there will always be a place for living out your dreams and enjoying life. He leaves behind several lives he has enhanced.”
Our Dad lost his battle with Alzheimer’s on October 17, 2015 one week before his 84th birthday.
Thank you for helping us advance Alzheimer's support, care and research!
