“Jandy’s Clan” is the name of my parents' Alzheimer’s walk team in Dallas, which they began in order to do their part in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease. Our family was first devastated by this disease with my grandmother’s diagnosis and eventual passing from it in 2005. Eight years later we were hit with my mom’s diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) which caused her to begin seeking medical support and also retire early. Together my parents have participated in clinical trials, created support groups, joined the National Early Stage Advisory Group, spoken at conferences (my mom’s a baller!), and traveled to Austin and Washington D.C. to advocate for Alzheimer’s funding to legislators. I am so inspired by their passion and drive in the Alzheimer’s fight, so I want to do my part in finding a cure.
This will be my fourth year and Wes’ fifth year to participate in a Walk to End Alzheimer's, whether in Dallas or now in our home state of Connecticut. Since we began the Alzheimer’s walks we have lost Wes’ grandpa, Arne Nilsson, to Alzheimer’s disease, so we walk in honor of him each year, too. It saddens me to again not be in Dallas to support my mom and dad's Walk to End Alzheimer's team, but we're continuing to use this opportunity to extend Jandy's Clan outside the realms of Texas (in case you're wondering, "Jandy" comes from the perfect mash of "Jan" and "Randy," my amazing parents :D). We had a small group of us walk in Jandy’s Connecticut Clan last year and would love to get an even bigger group of people to walk with us this year. So, how can you be a part of Jandy's Connecticut Clan and join the fight this year? There are a few different ways:
1) Join our team and sign up to walk with us on Sunday, September 29th -- it's free! (Click “JOIN OUR TEAM” above)
2) Donate to my page, Wes' page, or the Jandy's Connecticut Clan page to help us reach our team goal of $2000 -- it all goes to the same place, so you can pick any of our pages :) (Click “DONATE TO THE TEAM” above or click “DONATE” on either of our pages)
3) When you join our team it automatically creates your own page, so simply share your Alzheimer’s webpage on your Facebook (super easy and quick), so that you, too, can raise funds through your own network of people to help us reach our goal of $2000 -- and maybe even surpass it!
4) Pray for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, those caring for someone with Alzheimer's, those grieving for someone lost to Alzheimer's, and those tirelessly researching to find the cure to end Alzheimer's.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to Wes or me if you have any questions or would like to join us!
Thank you for uniting with us in the fight against Alzheimer's,
Wes and Angela Nilsson
