My mother no longer knows when my birthday is. She does not know her own address or phone number. For years, she loved to read murder mysteries, solve crossword puzzles, and cook delicious gourmet meals. She can no longer enjoy those hobbies. Alzheimer's disease is slowly stripping away not just my mom's memories, but everything that made her the strong, intelligent, fiercely independent woman she once was.
- Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
- More than 16 million people provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias.
- 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another dementia. It kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
- In 2019, Alzheimer's will cost the nation $290 billion.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please show your support for me, my family, and the millions of other families impacted by dementia. If you can, please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Every penny helps and your donation is greatly appreciated!
