What a crazy journey life can be, you can be heading down the road with a destination in mind only to look up and realize you aren’t exactly where you thought you’d be. Some may know, some may have heard but our families particular journey started in April of 2015 with Tony’s stroke, it was a shock to say the least and that stroke altered our direction. After many, many tests, doctors, specialists, etc. the doctors diagnosed him with Dementia. At this point, that’s where we are in our journey; Dementia! Dementia is an umbrella term. They know his brain is not healthy and have ruled out Alzheimers and that he is presenting with both Lewy Body and Frontal Temporal Degenerative Dementias. His care has been transferred now to the UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center for the next phase of our families journey. Not the diagnosis we wanted or hoped for.

If you have known Tony at any point in his life, you know that he is humble, loving and accepting, and he’s remained that way even with this awful disease. His greatest concern is his family, and remembering us. He works hard daily at exercising his brain with word games and is keeping himself busy teaching his kids and myself many skills he’s acquired by still doing little projects to keep himself busy, as much as he’s capable.

On Saturday September 28th, his kids and I will be walking with him in the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Raley Field in Sacramento, while not the same disease as his, all fall under the same umbrella and our hope is that one breakthrough would lead to others. We welcome any friends or family to join us by registering and walking with us (Only 2 Miles!) for the event.

For those who are unable to attend, we will be raising money for our team “St.Amant Strong”. We also encourage you to donate to a great organization that helps with resources, research and information on FTD, theaftd.org. You can also easily sign up for smile.amazon.com and choose The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration and .5% of purchases on your everyday amazon shopping will go to much needed research.
