I am walking in memory of a wonderful man whom I was lucky enough to be raised by.
I remember summers we spent as a family on our boat in Lake Tahoe from the time I was 5 years old on.
I remember him proudly wearing our Folsom High Cheerleading sweatshirt that said "Sierra's Dad" on it.
I remember him and my mom visiting me in college and taking me and my roommates out to dinner at restaurants where we didn't order from a counter. He was happy to treat us and always left with the message to continue to "work hard".
I remember him walking beside me down the aisle with his trademark, dimply smile as he shook Brian's hand.
I remember him being one of the very first people to meet all 4 of my boys moments after their births.
I remember when he began to get forgetful. It broke my heart to see the most intelligent and strong man I've ever known struggling with this horrible and unfair disease.
I remember the man who right up until the day we lost him said that his favorite place on earth was enjoying a sunset with a glass of wine in hand and his family by his side. He had many roles and titles, but I believe he loved his role of "Papa" to his 6 grandsons and 2 granddaughters most of all. And he would have loved to meet and hold his youngest grandson, and namesake, born this year.
I remember an incredibly generous man who loved his family fierce. We loved him back and miss him every day since we lost him on September 18, 2015.
I'm helping reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you and me. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
Thank you for joining the movement!
