I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the 2019 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans today live with Alzheimer's.
- 2/3 of those diagnosed are women—and no one knows why.
- 2/3 of Alzheimer’s caregivers are also women, many of who will have to take time off or resign from their jobs.
- A woman in her 60s is twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s over the course of her lifetime than breast cancer
- After 60, a woman has a 1 in 6 chance of developing Alzheimer’s.
- By 2050, 16 million brains in the US and 135 million worldwide will have fallen victim to this disease, and millions more family members and friends will suffer alongside those diagnosed.
Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
WHY I WALK:
I became involved with the Sacramento Walk To End Alzheimer's 16 years ago. My motivation? The day former President Ronald Regan passed away. I formed a team "Kelly's Heroes" in memory of my Grandfather Paul Lamoure who passed away with Alzheimer's.
When I first set out to educate myself about the disease I was astonished by how many people do not fully understand what Alzheimer's disease is. This is when I took the the challenge from fellow Alzheimer's Champion, Maria Shriver... I decided to be a VOICE. I would help create awareness, and make Alzheimer's "Top-of-Mind".
The Walk To End Alzheimer's season it is truly amazing to see the thousands of heroes who are helping to change the course of Alzheimer's disease. I have been touched and honored at the generosity of the donations received which help support Alzheimer's Care and Research.
WHAT I DO TO HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Alzheimer’s Association needs our help year round, so not only do I walk with my team in the Sacramento Walk to End Alzheimer's, I try to participate in Advocacy programs, create fun events benefiting the Northern California Alzheimer's Association and the Sacramento Walk to End Alzheimer's, create Social Media Campaigns that gets our community involved and "In-The-Know", and am a member of the Women's Alzheimer's Movement founded by Maria Shriver.
Today I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer'' Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for supporting our efforts! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here!
Sincerely,
Kelly Ulrickson-Fugina
