This July, I'll be participating in Ride to End ALZ South Carolina, a unique 255-mile, cross-state journey for cycling enthusiasts who are passionate about ending Alzheimer's disease. Our mission is to raise the funds needed for the research, care and support efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
I'm doing this ride because my Mama, Susan Bagwell Morehead, died of Picks Disease, a form of dementia, in December 2019 at the age of 64. At the time, I was told her disease was unexplainable, there was no cure or treatment, and that her suffering and death were inevitable. Recently, a real estate Client of mine told me what her condition was and I learned it was a form of dementia. When I discovered there's a name and a cause that is working to not only cure but prevent and treat what my Mama endured, I immediately knew I'd join the efforts to raise funds.
If you know me, you know riding my bike is truly one of my favorite things to do. Mama never understood it. When I left for South Africa to compete in Ironman 70.3 World Championships the year before she died, she told me "I just don't understand why you think you need to ride that bike so much." Well Mama, now I'm riding it for you, for daughters like me, and for grandchildren like Reagan and Luke. I don't them to endure the loss we have.
YOUR DONATION will help someone you know.
We all know someone who has been affected by this terrible disease. I ride because I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I want to help speed up scientific progress toward better treatments and prevention.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research — only dollars. That's why I am asking for your support.
By participating in Ride to End ALZ South Carolina, I'm fueling support services and cutting-edge research to change the trajectory of Alzheimer's disease. Each dollar I raise helps advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's and provide help for those facing dementia today.
Will you join me? Thank you for donating and cheering me on!
