This will be my SECOND year attempt at participating in "A Ride to Remember" or what has been called in the past "Ride to End Alz". Cycling 255 miles from Greenville to Charleston, SC in 3 days is a challenging feat but not so much when you observe someone Living with Alzheimer's.
Since 2017, I have been using my gift of cycling to help raise funds and awareness for much needed causes. This year I have decided to change my focus on a cause that will hopefully one day bring HOPE to those battling such a horrible illness. So serving to help raise funds and awareness is nothing strange for me.
Why i ride....My father passed suddenly in December of 2020 after contracting Covid. My mother at that time was expressing little signs of Dementia. I have since been caring for her. It is heartening to witness a parent who raised you struggle to live and function day to day.
Since I have been introduced to the world of Dementia and opening up about what I have been observing with my mother, I have since realized how many other families are dealing with similar situations with their loved ones.
Through all this, God has been teaching me more and more about patience, staying humble, being more compassionate and obedient to the mother I now care for.
As I begin this journey, I look to God for guidance, wisdom and faith. I am just a vessel carrying a message. I cannot change hearts but my faith is in God and what he can do for me.
I only ask this. Please pray. If by chance your heart is moved in some way, would you be generous enough to contribute to my efforts. My goal is not to heal my mother but to possibly stop this horrible illness from effecting our children.
I close in saying thank you with a humble heart. I know I cannot do this effort alone. Please consider joining the fight so researchers can finally find a cure to end Alzheimer's
Cheer Me On!
