For nearly a decade my dad struggled with the challenges of dementia. He lived at home with my mom, his wife of 70 years until we moved him to a memory care facility in the fall of 2021. He passed away January 19, 2023. He was a good man, a loving husband, a caring father, and an amazing granddad.
Unfortunately, my story is not unique. So many families have been affected in some way by this terrible disease. I pray and hope researchers will soon find an effective treatment and cure.
Progress is being made. Recently, a new medicine, Lecanemab, has shown promise for people with mild Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment due to the disease.
This is exciting news, as this could be the year the End ALZ cycling event transitions from fundraising for research to fundraising for the treatment and cure of those with the disease.
Many of you have made a donation to End ALZ in the past on my behalf, I am very grateful for your support. Thank you. Your donation is not for me, it’s for those diagnosed with the Alzheimer’s disease, their families and finding a treatment and cure.
If you would like to make your donation as a memorial to my dad, Gaines Huguley, Jr., my family would be grateful and very honored.
So, I invite you to join me on the 2023 Ride to End ALZ. Together, we can chase down the dream of finding a cure for this terrible disease.
Cheer Me On!
