Once again, I will be participating in the Ride to End ALZ South Carolina, a unique 258-mile journey for cycling enthusiasts. Previously known as A Ride to Remember, this event raises funds for the research, care and support efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Last year I rode 100 miles on Day 3, and I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of all those riding the entire distance of 252 miles. The passion of the riders and the tremendous support of all the volunteers and local communities was truly awe-inspiring. Enough so, that I have committed to riding all 3 days this July!
Alzheimer's and dementia have affected so many of those we know or their loved ones. Our family has been affected significantly over the past 15 years on both the Cowan and Jervis side. We lost Wheeler's mother, Jean Jervis, to Alzheimer's last year. My mother, Marge Cowan continues to decline with dementia, and my father, Ron Cowan, passed away from Lewy Body Dementia 10 years ago.
Wheeler and I enjoy riding throughout the year--but we look forward to riding with purpose this July--to recognize and honor all of those affected in the past and present. Again, we hope to contribute to the awareness/fundraising efforts needed for research to help treat those affected now and reduce the number of people affected in the future. We RIDE TO END ALZHEIMER'S!
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research — only dollars. That's why I am asking for your support.
The support I received last year had a tremendous impact on my enthusiasm and perseverance during the ride. Thank you for considering a donation and cheering me on!
