Why I Ride:
- A friend invited me! And I said YES!
- To honor those that are so bravely living with Alzheimer's Disease.
- To remember those who lived with Alzheimer's Disease.
- To lift up the courageous family members who journey alongside their loved one with Alzheimer's Disease.
- To recognize people working in nursing homes, assisted livings, and memory cares who provide love, compassion, acknowledgement, affirmation, patience, routine, dignity, personal care, end of life care, and safety to those journeying through Alzheimer's Disease.
- Because I LOVE working with the aging population!
- To bring awareness to my past and present roles with (mainly) the aging population as a volunteer, Social Worker, and Therapist in the following settings and places of employment...
- Mental Health Counselor - Owatonna Hospital Mental Health Unit, Owatonna, MN (Bachelor Level Practicum turned employment) working with adults experiencing mental health crises.
- Social Worker - UW - Madison Veteran's Affairs Clinics and Hospital, Madison, WI (Master's Level Internship) working with (mainly) WWII Veterans both in an outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital setting.
- Nursing Home Social Worker - Friendship Village of Bloomington, Bloomington, MN working with residents in the nursing home and board and care settings.
- Hospital Social Worker - Mercy and Unity Hospitals, Coon Rapids and Fridley, MN working with adults on a variety of units.
- Hospice Social Worker - Allina Home Care, Hospice, and Palliative Care working with (mainly) older adults declining from a terminal condition in the nursing home, assisted living, or group home setting.
- Elder Care Advisor - Healing Haiti both in Titanyen and Cite Soleil, Haiti as well as stateside helping to address the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the Elders who are one of the most vulnerable populations in Haiti.
- Therapist - Associated Clinic of Psychology working with older adults providing therapy services to clients in the nursing home or assisted living setting.
I am feeling so thankful and grateful for the many clients, patients, and families that have allowed me into their lives, so many who have journeyed through Alzheimer's Disease.
