Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and over 11 million are acting as their caregivers.
100 percent of the funds raised from this event will go toward the Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Alzheimer’s touches all of us, and it will take all of us to end it.
My Personal Connection:
In 2021, my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Dad remains in great spirits and continues to adore my mother, but his cognitive abilities continue to decline and he requires an increasing amount of care and support, for which we are thankful to have a strong network of family and friends. My grandmother and great-grandmother also suffered from this disease. I am currently waiting to hear whether I will be selected for a long-term research study by the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.
For the third year in a row, I am participating in the Ride to End ALZ, supporting the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
A HUGE thanks to everyone who supported me in 2021 and 2022. Thank you for cheering me on and making a real difference in the fight to end Alzheimer's disease.
Some Research News, and a Brain Health Campaign
A recent study about risk factors for developing dementia before age 65 has been getting a lot of media attention – perhaps you heard about it on the Today show, Fox News or elsewhere. Driving dementia risk reduction is a pillar of the Association’s mission, and I thought you might be interested in some additional information.
Also - we have launched an updated awareness campaign, 10 Healthy Habits for Your Brain, reflecting the latest findings about modifiable risk factors. Give it a read and get some tips and tricks!
