Why I Ride: My wife Debbie has endured the devastating effects of Alzheimer's for the past fourteen years. The disease has progressively taken her memory, the ability to communicate, walk, or stand. We provided for her care at home for as long as the family could manage, eventually having to move Debbie into a memory care facility four years ago. Debbie is an excellent mother, grandmother, Christian, friend, teacher, and librarian who loved sharing her gift of teaching with children. She has been my wife and best friend for over 50 years and we miss her presence and wonderful smile at home every minute of every day. Our daughter, two sons, brother, and friends formed “Team Debbie” in her honor for this Ride to End ALZ.
We are determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer’s. We are inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. We are also inspired by science.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ, a fully-supported, one day fundraising event where every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Thank you for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
