WHY I RIDE: I ride for my mom. She was diagnosed in 2019. My sister is her primary caregiver. As a way to give my sister a break and also to spend some time with my mom, she comes over on Sundays to watch football with me. Upon her arrival, my wife and kid give her lovies, then retreat to other areas of the house cause they don't care for football.. My mom and I split a McDonalds 10 piece chicken nugget meal. Every 15 minutes or so, she'll ask were my wife are daughter are. I've learned that even if I have them come out and say hi before going back to their room, she'll ask again in 15 minutes.
WE ARE IN THE ERA OF TREATMENT! It feels incredible to be able to say that now! There are CMS approved drugs, and more are being studied. These drugs will help slow down the progression of early onset Alzheimer’s. It gives me great joy to think that we could find a cure in my lifetime, and to prevent my child from having to go through what we are doing to care for our loved ones affected by this disease.
I AM ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT. I am participating in the Ride to End ALZ® Minnesota, it's 2nd year in Minnesota. This is a fully-supported, premier cycling event that supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
