Why I Ride: My wonderful, caring, gregarious, funny mom, Flo (rence) lost her battle with dementia on Mother's day May 9, 2021. I remember her words early on when she was first diagnosed. She said, "I am going to fight this!" She was a fighter who beat cancer, and she wasn't going to let ALZ win either. She fought a tough battle for 3+ years but most unfortunately, she didn't win. Neither did our family.
I am continuing this fight because the battle is not over! We will not let ALZ continue. I am honoring her and her mission, and for so many others who are going through their journey, who have lost their battle, and for the families and caregivers of someone with ALZ today. It sucks.
I will #RIDEtoENDALZ again this year on June 9, 2024, for my 4th charity ride in Fort Collins, Colorado. It is a one-day ride, where every dollar raised goes directly to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to bring forward research, treatment, and prevention for Alzheimer’s and dementia-related diseases. Some new drugs came out last year to slow the progression of the disease but the research and work continue, and your support can make a big difference and allow the research to continue.
The ALZ Association's researchers and doctors are working hard to better detect the disease early on, in addition to slowing the progression, and yes, finding a cure too! That is why your donations all matter!..today and tomorrow.
Please consider joining me on this fun, supportive, and beautiful ride in Fort Collins on June 9! If pedaling outside for a charity ride ain't your thing, you can sleep in and make a donation, or make a contribution online today.
This is vital to all of us in Colorado and around the world. Alzheimer's disease was the fifth-leading cause of deathamong people 65 and older in 2021. Nearly 7 million Americans are living withAlzheimer's. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. Healthand long-term care costs for people living with dementia are projected to reach$360 billion in 2024 and nearly $1 trillion in 2050. These are scary numbers, butwe can do something about it.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor. Won't you help all of us get there?
I am determined to go the distance for all those affected, as I saw firsthand the challenges family members go through. There are way too many people living with this disease and passing away from this disease.
Help us continue this important research and get to a cure by supporting the mission today.
Thank you for cheering me on, and contributing to our fight, and wear your purple in Fort Collins or elsewhere on Sunday, June 9! Thank you.
Cheer Me On!
