Why I Ride:
My mom, Patricia, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. Growing up she did the most for us - being our chauffer to a million activities, cheering us on, always being there whenever we needed her, and her favorite - taking us shopping :) (sorry, Dad). Now it's our turn to do the most for her, and this isn't easy for any of us.
This year has been a bit different than years past. Its been harder. Since October my mom has been dealingn with reoccurant UTIs, adjusting medicine to support her quality of lofe, and spending time each week working with an occupational therapist to learn how to underatand her frustrations and keep her engaged with purpose. I wont lie, it sucks, it really sucks, we wouldnt wish this on our worst enemy. But we hope we’re making a difference for her.
This is now my fourth year taking this challenge, starting sigificantly later this year after a tough but successful trip down the shore. The participation the past few years has been amazing. I have made the personal commitment to participate in a Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser every year until a cure is found, and I have full confidence that I will see that in my lifetime.
I would love to ask you, our family and friends, for your support both emotionally and physically as we continue on this journey. Over the past few years I have used exercise as a way to deal with my emotions, and make sure that I take care of myself while trying to help care for my mom. So my time on the bike has become important to me, and I hope to continue to do this to make sure I take care of myself. I know many of my friends and family have also enjoyed cycling this past few years. I even got my dad to come out on the ride with us! So I ask you to join me, for a Peloton class or a few miles, to show support for my amazing mother and my family. Thank you so much!
I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer's. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research -- only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ, a fully-supported, one day fundraising event where every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's disease.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's. Thank you for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
