Why I Ride: I am riding to help raise funds for Alzheimer’s research in the hope that we can find ways to prevent and even cure this tragic disease that causes so much pain for so many families. 100% of the money raised by this event will go towards research for a cure for Alzheimer's
Alzheimer’s affects more than 6 million Americans living with this disease and over 11 million more family members and friends who provide them with care. My own family is battling this disease. My mother-in law has Alzheimer's and my father-in-law is struggling with another form of dementia called Lewy body dementia (LBD). I also have other friends who have recently revealed they have been diagnosed with dementia. We have seen it slowly erode away both of their memories and personalities. We had to move my mother-in-law out of her home and tried to take care of her at our own home, but we eventually had to move her to an expensive assisted living facility for her own safety.
I am, however, inspired by science and recent discoveries regarding the causes of Alzheimer's and treatments that can slow its progress. There is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — but this research needs funding to continue to make progress. This is why I am asking for your support. All funds raised by the Ride to End ALZ®, supports research to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. (The Alzheimer’s Association’s staff and other funding comes from other sources.)
I'm currently signed up for just the 10-mile ride. But, if I can raise more than $1000, I'll make it 20 miles. I'll move up to the 35-mile tier after that if I can raise more than $5000.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Jacob J. Jones
