Why I Ride: I ride in memory of my Mom, Joan; Best Mom; who lived with dementia for 6 years. I know first hand the heartbreak of watching a loved one lose part of themselves and the sadness, confusion and anxiety they experience. I will forever love, and miss, the Mom I had before dementia and the Mom I had during dementia. And now I have two granddaughters. I ride with the hope that Alzheimer's, and other dementias, will no longer affect their generation.
I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer's. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I also believe science is critical in the fight against Alzheimer's. I hope that one day families will not need to experience the heartbreak of this disease that mine, and millions of others, have had to experience.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research - only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ, a fully-supported, one day fundraising event where every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's disease.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's. We are in the age of treatment, there is hope! Thank you for cheering me on.
With Hope, Laurie
Cheer Me On!
