Why I Ride:
My first encounter with Alzheimer's occurred when in the late 70s when my grandmother (SEE PHOTO) was diagnosed with what was then called "dementia." As the disease progressed, she no longer remembered/recognized me, and confused me with my Uncle (22 yrs older), who at the time was similar height, hair and build. She had three living siblings at the time, two more of whom suffered from this condition the last several years of their lives.
Now my mother's generation has its first casualty to this disease. I love riding my bike, but I don't feel that same positive feeling about this disease. I fully expect to complete the 23 miles I am signed up to ride (3x my bike commute to work), and would appreciate your support in helping me reach my goal.
I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer’s. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Thank you for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
