Why I Ride:
It seems everyone is affected in some way by Alzheimer's whether it be directly caring for a loved one or indirectly, knowing and supporting friends affected by this disease. My beautiful mother Ida May (shown here on the right celebrating her 90th birthday last August) and her lovely sister Georgena are both affected by this disease as was their mother before them. I ride in honor of these strong women ~ my mother, aunt, and grandmother ~ and I've joined Team LUCY with extended family to honor and ride in memory of Lucy Sommers (my cousins wife's mom). This disease can be so brutal on those affected as well as the ones they love. It is our goal that we can come together to raise awareness of the over 7 million Americans suffering from the disease while also raising funds to continue necessary research. Alzheimer's researchers have no shortage of ideas - it's funding that slows them down so every dollar counts!
Most of Team Lucy will be participating in the Ride to End ALZĀ® in person in Colorado and a few of us will be with them in spirit as we ride with them virtually from other locations since we could not get to Colorado for the event I will be riding in MD as a member Team Lucy.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research to enable there to one day be a cure and survivors of Alzheimers. All donations will directly support the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's disease. Team Lucy welcomes your support.
