As time passes, I see myself in my Dad, and I love that enlightenment! At an early age, I fondly remember one-on-one time with him. Whether it was because I was the youngest and my sisters were already independent or because we had so much in common and naturally gravitated towards each other, these experiences made me who I am today, including being a passionate downhill skier and slalom waterskier, a committed entrepreneur, a stickler for details, an entertainer, a planner, a music lover who sings and dances, a deep thinker, a family lover, a fashion enthusiast, and someone with a solid moral compass.
It pains me to know life as I knew it with my father will never be the same now that he has Dementia. I yearn for the moments when “Dad” is there. I sometimes believe that it’s happening, but I really never know. It’s a mind-bending disease for everyone involved, and I am committed to finding a cure.
With a father-in-law who has Parkinson's, for whom we have ridden in previous years, I now sadly and energetically commit to riding for my own father. Our 65 miles are nothing compared to what he and my Mom live with moment by moment. On the day we ride and the funds we raise, it is all worth it if it makes someone else’s day a little easier!
Thank you for reading my story. Know that I’m riding for you and your loved ones, too! I'll leave you with my life motto: "The hardest things to do are the best for you." Now, let’s go make progress together!
Peace, Suzanne
