Why I Ride: I am riding for the first time this year to honor my beautiful Mother who is living with Alzheimer's, and to honor my Father who is my mom's caregiver, champion, and greatest love.
I am riding because I have to channel my emotions and fears into something positive, and 90% of the money raised by The Ride To End ALZ goes to support research--and research is everything. It is vital we find treatments to help those suffering from this cruel and relentless disease, and to help prevent this disease from destroying more lives in the future. I am inspired by the strength of my Mom and Dad, by the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and by the 11 million+ family members and friends who provide care. I am also inspired by science.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. The Ride to End ALZ is a fully-supported, premier cycling event that supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
I will be riding this year with my husband, Paul, who started riding back in 2016 to support his brother-in-law whose father died from Alzheimer's. I have attended every Ride since then, cheering Paul on from the sidelines, hugging him at the pitstops, and clanging my bell at the finish line. But this year we will ride the 30 miles together, hoping that with every mile we are closer to a cure.
Thank you for your support!
Be good,
Meghan
