Why I Ride: My grandfather, Michael Slattery, uncles Jerry Slattery and Joe Vetter all lost their lives to Alzheimer's disease. On June 5, 2021, my mother, Pat Chapman, joined them when we lost her to this devastating disease.
On June 1, 2024, to mark the anniversary of my mother's passing, to commemorate my other family members, and to raise funds in support of the Alzheimer's Association, I will again participate in the one-day, 100-mile "Ride to End ALZ, New England." Additionally, as a reward for collecting over $5,000 in donations for my 2023 ride, I will participate in either the Ride to End ALZ, Minnesota on October 13 or the Ride to End ALZ, Texas on November 9 (a final decision is forthcoming).
Prior my mom's diagnosis in 2012, there was a noticeable decline in her memory. In the years that followed her diagnosis, her cognitive decline became increasingly pronounced and the woman we knew and loved slowly disappeared. The physical and emotional toll this heart-breaking illness inflicted on my mom and our family cannot be measured.
Your support of my ride would mean the world to me. Every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention of this terrible disease. Last year, supporters of my ride contributed to the more than $800,000 raised by all participants in the Ride to End ALZ, New England. What new heights can we achieve this year?
Thank you for your donation and for cheering me on!
