Why I Ride: Like so many who are connected in some way to the Alzheimers Association I have had personal experience with this horrific disease. I lost my mother several years ago after watching her decline slowly over the course of about 16 years Since she was diagnosed I have been involved with the Alzheimers Association as a volunteer on the Helpline, a medical volunteer on walks and at key water stops for the local Ride to End Alzheimers. I have been to Washington to lobby for our cause and have brought the knowledge I have accumulated to my workplace as an activities director for a local senior living facility.
This past June for my birthday (and as it turns out a few days after the anniversary of my mother's passing) I was the happy recipient of a beautiful new bicycle (thanks Honey!) and I will be participating in the Ride to End Alzheimers for the first time I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer’s. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ®, a fully-supported, premier cycling event that supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Thank you for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
