For nearly a decade my dad struggled with the challenges of dementia. He lived at home with my mom, his wife of 70 years up until the fall of 2021. Recently, he passed away. He was a good man, a loving husband, a caring father, and an amazing and fun loving granddad.
Unfortunately, my story is not unique. So many families have been affected in some way by this terrible disease. I pray and hope researchers will soon find an effective treatment and cure.
Progress is being made. Recently, a new medicine, Lecanemab, has shown promise for people with mild Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment due to the disease.
This is exciting news, as this could be the year the End ALZ cycling event transitions from fundraising for research to fundraising for the treatment and cure of those with the disease.
