Why I Ride: I am riding in honor of my dad who we lost to Alzheimer's in March of 2021. This disease is gutwrenching and takes its toll on the whole family. It is hard to watch the memories being taken away slowly over time. I still remember the first time my dad didn't recognize his eldest granddaughter. And though you know what is happening the first time that he didn't recognize me was such a shock. My brothers and I spent the last 3 months of his life taking turns caring for him so one of us was always with him. That time was agonizing but also uplifting that we could be there during his final days. I'm very proud of how we came together and supported each other.
I am inspired by the strength of my family and the over 11 million family members who provide support for the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease.
I am also inspired by science. I am participating in the Ride to End ALZ®, a fully-supported, premier cycling event that supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. I hope that you will consider supporting me.
And thanks in advance for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
