Why I Ride:
I am riding for all of those who are afflicted with dementia, like my mother, Jeanne Stabler. She will be 95 when I ride June 3rd. She has been a loving, inspiring mainstay of my life and a very dear friend, as well as mother. Her dementia affects her "where am I" and her short term memory the worst. She is luckier than many since she still can read, knows her kids and can take care of many of her activities of daily living with only minor help. But, she is stressed and upset sometimes when she thinks about what she has lost mentally. My mother has always said, "I was born a feminist." She put herself through college at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, earning 50 hours beyond her undergraduate degree in sciences. She wanted to get a PhD, but could not find any decent day care for my older sister. After my youngest sister went to school, she taught medical science for nursing students. My mother loved traveling, being outdoors and her family.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Thank you for cheering me on.
Cheer Me On!
