After the successful completion of the 2021 Alzheimer's Association Ride to End ALZ® South Carolina (formerly A Ride to Remember), I am back for Year 2 to see if I can once again successfully complete the challenging 252-mile bike ride across the state of SC. The ride starts on July 8 in Simpsonville and ends on July 10 in Charleston.
As many of you know, the primary purpose of Alzheimer's Association Ride to End ALZ® South Carolina is to raise funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®. Although my family has not been directly affected by Alzheimer’s, I know many families who have been impacted by this disease. One close contact is Gaines Huguley, III, a member of the Calder Brothers Cycling Team with whom I will be riding, whose father, Gaines Huguley, Jr., is currently battling this disease. Gaines Jr. and his wife Austin have been close personal friends of my family for 60+ years and I want to support the Huguley family by dedicating my ride to them. And since Alzheimer’s falls under the umbrella of mental health, I continue to be directly impacted by mental health issues impacting my 90-year old father. So I am riding A Ride to Remember in memory of those friends who have lost a family member to Alzheimer’s, in honor of the Huguley family and other families currently impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and in honor of my father.
Please support my efforts by making a donation using the “Donate” button located in the top right section of this page and then follow the directions on the donations page. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to provide care support for all affected and advance research toward better treatments, prevention, and ultimately a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Thank you for joining the fight to #ENDALZ! I am truly thankful for your support!!
