On August 2nd, I will be riding my bike across America, from the Atlantic Ocean (Virginia Beach, VA) to the Pacific (San Diego, CA). Along the ride, I'm hoping to raise awareness and funding for the Alzheimer's Association. For those that don't know, Alzheimer's is a debilitating disease that progressively causes you to lose your memory and ultimately your ability to perform basic life tasks. There are more than 6 million Americans living this disease, and over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. Unfortunately, two of my grandparents - Cecilia Legan and Joseph Szeluga, have passed away from complications relating to Alzheimer's. There is no known cure, despite improving research. I know every dollar counts in going towards one day being able to better treat and eradicate this terrible disease and one day being able to say there are Alzheimer's survivors.
My grandfather, Bruce Legan, lost his wife, my grandmother, Cecilia Legan, 35 years ago from Alzheimer's. That was the love of his life, and he never remarried. He turns 100 years old on August 1. This is a birthday gift for you, Papa, and for the millions more that have been affected by this disease.
