Why I Ride: I lost my maternal grandfather and uncle to Alzheimer's. Particularly in the case of my grandfather, I witnessed first-hand the progression of this disease. My observation is that Alzheimer's is terrifying for the person who is diagnosed. And caretakers continue to support their loved one even as the recognition of their relationship, their memories, and even their faces fades away.
I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer's. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer's research -- only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ, a fully-supported, one day fundraising event where every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's disease. I am riding for the Miller Family. I am riding for Uncle Ken. I am riding for Papa Vernon. And I am riding for all of the friends and family who came together to support each other during these illnesses.
With each mile I ride, I am raising funds to advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's. Thank you for cheering me on.
