Why I ride: I began cycling about 12 years ago, primarily for better health. Unlike running, cycling does not put stress on the knees. It also allows you to cover more ground than running making it more enjoyable to explore new areas, particularly on a nice day. Lastly, cycling involves an element of danger due to the speed, other motor vehicles and road conditions, all which keep it exciting and there is also technology involved which appeals to the "gadget man" in me.
Why I Ride To End ALZ: I chose this ride in honor of my father who passed away in 2021 from Alzheimer's related illness. It was very sad to see his mind and body deteriorate as his condition worsened in the final year of his life. My father was also hard of hearing which I later learned makes it 5 times more likely to acquire the disease.
Why you should donate: The sad truth is that Alzheimer's is on the rise and by 2050 researchers estimate that the number of dementia cases will triple of what they are today. The good news is that researchers are getting closer to understanding what causes ALZ and how to delay the onset of symptoms or prevent the disease all together. Please consider donating to this cause that is very close to my heart. Every dollar raised goes to support the Alzheimer's Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's disease.
