Why I Ride: My father Benjamin Chinitz died of aspirational pneumonia due to Alzheimer’s in April, 2009. Ben was a brilliant, Harvard University Ph.D Economist ( Urban and Regional Economics) who served three US Presidents, Chaired the Economics Department at Brown University, was the Dean of UMASS/Lowell’s Business School, ran several Think Tanks, published many books and papers and consulted to foreign governments on NIMBY and economic growth and infrastructure issues. Ben’s illness advanced slowly through his 70’s, but accelerated rapidly when my mom, Ethel, died suddenly from a fall/Brain Trauma in 2007. My family and I witnessed how Alzheimer’s robbed my Father’s brain, brilliance, and tremendous personality. My hope is that my ride can help to make a difference in the research and treatment of this hideous disease. Please help me to help the millions of people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s each year. God Bless. Mike Chinitz.
