A few of you may have seen my recent Alzheimers Bike Ride post. My Dad was just recently diagnosed with Alzheimers. It hasn't had a huge effect on him yet, but we are starting to see some of the characteristic behaviors.
Shortly after his diagnosis I saw a post at work for the bike ride and decided to jump on in. It's a 20, 40, 60 or 100 mile bike ride in Wimberley, TX in October. I elected for the short one, but if my body holds up and I feel good I might shoot for the 40 mile'r. The main goal is not the bike ride, of course, but raising funds for those effected by this debilitating disease. My Grandfather had it, my Aunt had it and now my Dad. My next door neighbor is battling both advanced Parkinson's AND Dementia... and somehow seems to continue to be in great spirits most days. My neighbor on the other side lost her Mom to Dementia shortly after we moved in.
I know there are multitudes of causes that you could donate to but I'm hoping that you can spare a little for this one as it effects so many and their families. I'll keep up the training and post my progress as I go, up until race day where I'll hopefully zoom across the finish line in record time!
Wish me luck... my back and knees are gonna need it!!! Peace, joy and happiness to all and thanks for taking the time to read this!!!
